All green board and all cream board Blues Juniors are identical electronically, despite what the salesman told you. Below is a table of revision dates and the changes made on those dates. Fender adopted a two-letter dating code in 1990, and the code can be found on the Quality Assurance label, inside the cabinet, sometimes located on the bottom, next to the reverb tank, sometimes on the side. The codes are usually handwritten, and the letters can occasionally be hard to decipher. There is no reliable way to date 2003-2005 amps other than to ask Fender customer support to look up the date from the serial number, although you may find a date code on the speaker.
Dating fender drri by serial number
The cream-colored board is laid out entirely differently (and better) than the green board. But the old ones sound darker, while the new ones are brighter, with more emphasis on treble tones.
One is not necessarily better than the other; the dark tones are nice for blues and jazz, while the new amps do brighter tones better.
How to date and identify your Fender instruments using serial numbers and production date stamps.
No one likes it when you forget their birthday and neither does your Fender. For most of Fender’s production history they have applied serial numbers and production dates that can help you determine their production date (within a few years’ margin, at least).
The neck date simply refers to the date that the individual component was produced.
Given the modular nature of Fender's production techniques, an individual neck may have been produced in a given year, placed in the manufacturing warehouse and remained in stock for a period of time, and then subsequently paired with a body to create a complete guitar in the following year. While there have been periods where dramatic changes have occurred, for example: the transition periods between Leo's Fender and the CBS years, as well as the transition between CBS' Fender and the current ownership, generally speaking, most models are feature specific and do not change from year to year..Serial numbers have been used in various locations on Fender instruments through the years.Determining the date can also be important from a collector’s perspective, since the pre-1966 vintage Fender guitars are generally considered the most valuable.Fender was sold to CBS in the first week of January 1965, but already in late 1964 mass production was slowly being introduced, which gradually lowered quality and ultimately collectibility.2006 amps have a small metal “Fender 60th Anniversary” button on the back plate. Early Tweeds The early green board tweed-covered amps were not lacquered. It has the same cream board inside with the same components as every other current-production Blues Junior.
