You don’t even need to know someone’s phone number, as Face Time can use an email address instead, so long as the recipient has the feature turned on. That means you can save your phone’s call allowance minutes by talking via Wi Fi while at home, the office, or even in a coffee shop. You can be contacted on Face Time using your mobile number, but also email addresses.
As this is over the internet you can also call friends or family in other countries, on your mobile, without incurring an eye-watering bill (presuming you have enough data). You can add a number of email addresses here and pick what you want to show up as your caller ID.
But one often overlooked aspect of Face Time is that of its audio function.
For those who don't already use Snapchat, the app's newest update might change at least a few minds.
The latest features, added last week, are destined to make Snapchat's video call feature the go-to method for calling your friends. While users have been able to video call using Snapchat since 2014, the latest update has a couple of bonus features.
If they're in a meeting, they can gleefully watch you in real time (sort of like Periscope), or you can simply send the video as a message for them to watch as soon as they're released from that budget meeting.
If users can schedule a call, there's an added benefit of being able to write messages during the call, which is a feature I've always yearned for. You can answer the call and cheerfully show your buddy that you're BBQ-ing with the in-laws while sneakily typing that you also hope your SO's random cousin gets lost on the way to refill the cooler.
It also means you can essentiallly make phone calls on your i Pad.

And regardless of what OS your smartphone is running, it likely came with some built-in video chatting software. Facetime only works on i OS, and Google Hangouts only supports 10 chatters at one time.
If you're facing a video chat crisis, never fear--third-party video chat apps are here to save the day.
